RWS World Card: Paired Combinations

The World With Major Arcana Cards

The World & The Chariot

The World (↑) & The Chariot (↑): Triumph extending beyond former limits. This pairing shows a major victory followed by expansion into wider territories. It favours international success, graduation with honours, or the successful return from a demanding journey. Physical travel often accompanies the conclusion of an important cycle.

The World (↓) & The Chariot (↑): Progress continues but final success arrives later than planned. Border issues, transport problems, or divided responsibilities slow the last stage. Steady control ensures completion despite delay.

The World (↑) & The Chariot (↓): Achievement reached, yet momentum fades after the finish. Goals conclude proudly, but leadership or direction beyond them remains unclear. Further planning secures ongoing stability.

The World (↓) & The Chariot (↓): Effort scattered at the point of closure. The destination is near but reached in stages or under changing routes. Results hold once order restores to the journey.

The World With Minor Arcana Cards

The World & Three of Swords

The World (↑) & The Three of Swords (↑): The end of sorrow and clear separation from past difficulty. This pairing can mark closure after divorce, farewell after travel, or the resolution of long conflict. Though loss is acknowledged, peace follows completion.

The World (↓) & The Three of Swords (↑): Recovery delayed. The break has occurred, yet lingering obligations or shared property slow true release. Full peace arrives once remaining ties are settled.

The World (↑) & The Three of Swords (↓): Rift nearly healed but memory still sharp. Letters or correspondence may reopen contact briefly before final distance is restored.

The World (↓) & The Three of Swords (↓): Pain prolonged through indecision. The matter repeats itself until formal closure is confirmed, after which calm returns.

The World & Ace of Pentacles

The World (↑) & The Ace of Pentacles (↑): Completion opens a prosperous doorway. Graduation, promotion, or conclusion of contracts leads directly to financial or practical reward. The pairing favours new business ventures, property purchase, or investments bearing first returns.

The World (↓) & The Ace of Pentacles (↑): Success approaches although resources or conditions are not yet aligned. Payment, approval, or material benefit comes slightly later than expected but proves secure when received.

The World (↑) & The Ace of Pentacles (↓): Achievement realised without material recognition. Titles or outcomes conclude proudly, yet the associated reward or funding falls short. Practical gain follows once attention shifts to new groundwork.

The World (↓) & The Ace of Pentacles (↓): Promise remains incomplete. A project ends yet the tangible profit or settlement does not appear immediately. Delays in finance or administration hold results until the next cycle begins.

A.E. Waite’s World Card Symbolism

A.E Waite’s World card depicts a dancing figure, often seen as hermaphroditic, representing the complete integration of masculine and feminine principles. The figure is enclosed within a large laurel wreath, a symbol of victory and success.

In each of the four corners are the four living creatures of Ezekiel, the same figures seen on the Wheel of Fortune, representing the four elements and the four corners of the universe, now in harmonious balance.

The entire scene represents the successful completion of the Great Work, the culmination of a cycle, and the celebration of cosmic wholeness.

Meditations On The World Card

Question: Is The World a 'yes' or 'no' card?

The World is one of the most positive cards in the deck. It is a resounding and definitive 'yes', signifying successful completion and a positive outcome.
